Melody Contreras

Program Manager

Melody is a writer, dramaturg, curator, and multimedia artist based in Chicago. Originally from Elgin, IL., she has been involved with Hamilton Wings since she was 13 years old.

 

She is a graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she received a B.F.A. in Theatre Studies and a B.A. in Latina/Latino Studies. During her years at UIUC, she was an active member of la estación gallery and The Brown Theatre Collective. In 2021, she was the recipient of the Latino/Latina Studies Scholarship: The Legacy of ’92. Post graduation, she was the production dramaturg for Remy Bumppo’s Anna in the Tropics and Love Song. In May 2024, her poetry was selected to be displayed at the Pilsen Arts & Community House. Recently, her essay, "Fornésian Dreamscapes: Navigating Queer World-Making" was published in The Routledge Companion to Latine Theatre and Performance. In her free time, she enjoys nature walks and spending time with loved ones. Follow her on instagram @melodies_harmonies to stay updated on her work.
